We sell builds on both platforms, so we have no horse in this race — the honest answer is that both are excellent and the right one depends on you, not on the platforms.

The one question that usually decides it

Do you want to run a store, or run a store and a website? Shopify is a store that rents you everything: hosting, security, updates, checkout. WooCommerce is a store you own outright, sitting on WordPress you are responsible for. Renting is simpler. Owning is more powerful and cheaper at scale — if someone maintains it properly.

Where Shopify wins

Setup speed and calm: hosting, SSL, updates, and PCI compliance are simply not your problem. The checkout is world-class and you cannot break it. The app ecosystem solves almost anything in two clicks. Support exists 24/7. For a first store, a dropshipping test, or a founder who never wants to hear the word “plugin”, Shopify is usually the right call.

Where WooCommerce wins

Ownership and flexibility: no monthly platform fee, no transaction surcharge for using your own gateway, and no rules about what you can customize. Content marketing is stronger — WordPress remains the best blogging engine on earth, which matters if SEO is your main channel. Complex catalogs, memberships, multilingual stores, and unusual business logic all bend further on Woo. At meaningful scale, the economics favor owning.

The honest costs

Shopify: subscription plus apps plus checkout fees — predictable, and it adds up. WooCommerce: hosting is cheap, but the real cost is stewardship — updates, backups, security, and compatibility are yours (or your maintenance partner’s). An unmaintained WooCommerce store is a liability; we clean up hacked ones often enough to say that plainly.

Speed, SEO, conversion

Tie, tie, tie — configuration beats platform on all three. A lean Shopify theme beats a bloated WooCommerce build and vice versa. Nobody ranks or converts better because of the logo in their admin panel.

Our plain recommendation

First store, small team, standard products → Shopify. Content-heavy brand, unusual requirements, cost-sensitive at scale, or you already live in WordPress → WooCommerce. Genuinely torn → book the strategy call and we will decide it with you in an hour, including the migration math if you are switching. We build launch packages for both at the same price for a reason: we truly do not mind which one you pick.
